How to make a website
Doing this project on the Royal Albert Docks regeneration I have learnt about the different types of regeneration, Prior to this module my knowledge of regeneration was basic and I thought that it was only about taking an area out of the spiral of decline and rebuilding it. However, I have found that there is so much more to it.

Learning about holistic and community lead regeneration has changed my opinion about the topic. Before, I believed that a top-down market lead approach would be the best form of regeneration for an area as it led to the most profit. However, learning about regeneration cliff edges and what happens to a community surrounding a regeneration site, I now feel that communities do deserve more input on the regeneration outcome.

Furthermore, I have gained a better sense of valuing local heritage. Before this module I looked at the docks site and it seemed like a blank slate that could be developed. I now realise this position is very naïve and that the area is steeped in history and just because it isn’t a tourist attraction doesn’t mean that it is not just as important. I also learnt the different ways to preserve heritage for example, whether we should leave heritage to be dissolved over time or if we should input to maintain it for future generations.

Finally, my digital skills have improved. Before I had not considered making a website to present my ideas, however it now seems the obvious choice. The skills I learnt have allowed me to set up my own website and e-portfolio. I have also learnt how to use procreate and how to do a basic masterplan. I found drawing my masterplan on procreate a far better way to convey my ideas than with hand drawings or text.

Overall, this module has been invaluable to me, not only developing my understanding of urban design but also boosting my professional skillset and my employability.
